Introduction
- There may be situations where we will have to change permissions on the files or folders on the hosting. This may be necessary if an application or website asks us to do so, if we want to block or limit access to a file or folder, and so on. Permissions can be changed in two ways: either using an FTP client, or using the file manager provided by the control panel. In this tutorial we are going to present the variant through the File Manager offered by cPanel.
Requirement
- CPanel logins, available in the email with the administration data.
Steps
- We will log in to the cPanel control panel, go to the Files section and click on File Manager.
- In the next window the files on the hosting will be listed.
To change the permissions we will go to the folder or file you want, we will right click, after which we select Change Permissions.
- In the column with the name Permissions we will be able to see the current permissions of the selected file or folder in octal format.
In the window that will appear we will have the possibility to make the settings we want. We can check the borders for Read, Write or Execute permissions, for each type of User, Group or Other user.Alternatively we can set permissions in an octal way using the Permission field (generally applications that ask for special permissions, give us the number to be set).
After making the settings we will click on the button Change Permissions.
- From this point on the permissions will be changed. We can see this in the Permissions column next to the file or folder.
